After many years of creating draws by slaving away on excel spreadsheets, taking registrations and payments manually or by email and word of mouth, NZ Tag Football Inc (NZTFI) have unleashed the power of GameDay within their nationally-run tournaments.

In what is being described as a “Game Changer” for one of the fastest growing team sports in New Zealand, NZTFI rolled out their new technology at the International Tag Series (ITS) in Auckland last weekend.

After being delayed for a couple of years due to Covid-19, the National Body were able to completely streamline team registration and payments for their 70 junior and senior teams, as well as their player registrations and payment via bespoke online registration forms.

The technology was then utilised to seamlessly fixture over 420 games across 15 fields during three jam-packed days of fierce competition.

Game results were entered directly into the platform with instant updates to the ladders, and progressions surfacing on the GameDay Mobile App and NZTFI results website.

The GameDay suite of technology was also utilised to manage the significant number of volunteer officials over the weekend with the integrated Schedula platform, delivering instant referee appointments with associated reporting and payment capability.

Claude Iusitini, NZTFI national operations officer and tournament director, noted that the lead-up to their first major event of the year had been eerily quiet compared to previous seasons.

“Usually leading into an event of this size, we are constantly responding to emails and queries, updating our fixtures spreadsheets, chasing teams for payments and player information, and trying to balance referee loads and field allocations,” he said.

“This year was super quiet, and I was actually able to go out to dinner with some of the organisers the night before the competition!

“We have a super passionate player base and the sport is growing in popularity.

“We are excited to be able to make the registration process super easy for our people and allow them to keep tabs on the progression of the tournament via their phones on the sidelines.”

GameDay’s Ross Wilson attended the International Tag Series and was incredibly impressed with the drive of the organisers.

“The staff and volunteers within the Tag Whanau are so passionate and the vibe of the event was amazing to experience,” he said.

“We are excited to provide a state-of-the-art platform that will continue to support NZTFI, not only with their key national events, but also for all the modules around the country that are creating really cool experiences for their players.”

Next on the Calendar is the Junior Tag Football Nationals in early December, where NZTFI and GameDay will be managing a much larger event of over 230 teams across 37 fields and 21 age group divisions within three days.
