RFL League 1 side Coventry Bears oversee their own junior community rugby programme due to the lack of amateur clubs within their region.

Due to year-on-year growth, the third-tier English side had previously struggled to manage registrations and cash handling in an efficient manner.

Now, though, they are one of a number of semi-pro, community and grassroots rugby league clubs across the UK taking advantage of RFL platform LeagueNet, a 21st century digital solution provided by GameDay. 

Previously, individual coaches were in charge of chasing payments from their players. But with irregular attendance, handling cash and the need to focus on planning training sessions, it proved to be an ineffective process. 

The Bears decided to explore other ways that player registrations and payments could be taken, and quickly found that LeagueNet was capable of offering these services. 

The club decided to trial the platform and reached out to GameDay to assist with utilising the functionality of LeagueNet. 

“It was a case of parents/players entering the online form, filling out their details and making payment on the spot,” said Debbie Watson, Finance Director of Coventry Bears.

“Having the ability to complete this task all at once made it a lot easier for families to register. 

“Coaches [have enjoyed] the ability to focus on their training sessions without following up players for registration fees. 

“Our club has regular cash flow to operate effectively and a clearer understanding of reconciling funds from our juniors.”
